Homemade Mexican Tortillas
27. 9. 2025

In this culinary workshop, children will make their own tortilla dough, roll it out, and cook it on a pan. Then we’ll prepare a variety of fillings together — vegetable, cheese, and meat — and learn how to fill and roll the tortillas. This workshop is a great opportunity for young cooks to discover the basics of Mexican cuisine and create a delicious meal from simple ingredients.
Tortillas are the foundation of many Mexican dishes and can be easily made at home without special equipment. Children will see how a few basic ingredients turn into a popular dish that can be customized to their taste.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to make tortillas from scratch, cook them, and fill them with different fillings. We’ll enjoy some of the tortillas together, and the rest can be taken home.
Did you know that in Mexico, tortillas were traditionally made from corn flour, while today wheat tortillas are popular worldwide? Freshly baked tortillas are soft and fragrant — completely different from store-bought ones!
Mentor
The workshop will be led by Juš Mejaš, a master of home baking with years of experience at Pekarna Osem in Ljubljana. Before working at the bakery, he honed his skills baking at home, learning through trial and error, and perfected his knowledge and feel for dough, which he later refined at Pekarna Osem. He now shares his expertise through workshops at Center Rog.
***
Participants are asked to gather 15 minutes before the scheduled time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers shown by the mentor. Kindly avoid arriving late, as this disrupts the workflow. In case of delay, we unfortunately cannot guarantee entry to the lab.
The program will be conducted in Slovenian, unless otherwise specified.
If the workshop is canceled, you will be notified two days before the planned start date.
Participation fees are non-refundable, and dates cannot be rescheduled. However, you may transfer your spot to another person — please inform us at least 24 hours before the start of the program by emailing kuhanje@center-rog.si.
We look forward to your company and creating together.
