Inlay Workshop
28. 8. 2025

Step into the world of inlay, where art, craftsmanship, precision, and the fundamentals of woodworking come together. In this hands-on workshop, guided step-by-step by an experienced mentor, you’ll create your own unique inlay – whether it’s an abstract pattern, a meaningful symbol, or a simple image of your choice.
As you work, you’ll develop an eye for detail, learn about the characteristics of veneer, and gain practical experience in planning and sketching a motif, precision cutting, and assembling wooden pieces into a harmonious whole. This workshop offers an excellent introduction to the basics of hand woodwork and working with simple tools.
The final product – a drink coaster, a miniature artwork, or another decorative piece – will be a lasting memento of your creative process and the new skills you’ve acquired.
No prior knowledge is required – just a bit of patience and a desire to create.
This is an intergenerational workshop, suitable for participants aged 10 and up.
The training is part of the accompanying program of the exhibition Heritage of the Future by the contemporary craft platform MADE IN. Visit the exhibition until September 6, 2025, at the Great Hall of Center Rog, and until September 14, 2025, at the Museum of Architecture and Design.
About the mentor:
The workshop will be led by Gal Žvab, who describes himself as a happy man from the moment he came into contact with wood. Throughout his upbringing, he was constantly surrounded by tools, forests, and timber. A trained wood engineer, Gal is passionate about sharing his knowledge with the next generation of woodworkers. He teaches both practical and theoretical woodworking subjects at a secondary school and mentors in the woodworking lab at Center Rog. Wood is central not only to his profession but also to his hobbies, which include inlay, carving, and restoration.
