"Ebru" is a traditional Turkish art of painting on water, known since the 9th century. Turkish masters mastered this technique so well that they created abstract patterns and realistic compositions that adorned precious books. Besides its recognized aesthetic and artistic value, the ebru technique is also used within the framework of art therapy approaches and is included on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.

In the workshop, we will learn the basics of water marbling. We will transfer the final picture onto paper, which we will use to decorate the inside pages of our favorite notebook or book. For those eager to explore further, there will also be an option for painting on fabric.

First, we will get acquainted with natural colors, tools, and their use for executing various marbled patterns. Through guided steps, we will choose our favorite colors and patterns, apply them to the water surface, and then transfer them onto paper or fabric. Once dried, we will decorate our favorite notebooks or books, which you should bring along.

The workshop brings about relaxation, excitement, and satisfaction with a quick and simple creative technique that results in a beautiful artistic outcome.

It will be led by Selma Yazici and Birsen Arslan, Turkish artists and crafters living and working in Ljubljana. They have learned the art of the ebru technique and its philosophy in Turkey and continue their journey of exploration and improvement. As co-founders of the cultural association Anatolia, they share crafting knowledge from the rich Turkish cultural heritage in workshops and educational meetings throughout Slovenia.

The workshop is part of the partnership project Migrantour: Paths and Bonds, led by the Terra Vera association in collaboration with the partner organizations Oloop Institute, Škrateljc Institute, and the Department of Art, Design, and Theatre at OsloMet. The project is funded by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and Norway/ACF Slovenia.

Participants should gather 5 minutes before the agreed-upon time in the entrance hall of Center Rog.

The workshop will be held with a minimum of 5 registrations. In case of non-execution, you will be informed at the latest two days before the program starts.

We do not refund participation fees, and it is not possible to change the date. Participation can be transferred to another person; please inform us at least 24 hours before the start via email attekstil@center-rog.si.
