In addition to creating new clothes, we want to empower users in the textile lab with knowledge on how to take care of their old clothes. Those that, except for minor flaws or damages, are still beautiful and we want to preserve them. Therefore, we are organizing a one-day clothing repair workshop, where we will focus on shortening garments and replacing zippers.

What will we do in the workshop?

In the workshop, participants (basic knowledge of sewing and using a sewing machine is recommended) will learn how to:

  1. Replace a zipper, whether short, long, separable, non-separable, hidden, etc. NOTE: zippers can only be replaced on textile products. Replacing zippers on suitcases, briefcases, hard leather bags, footwear, etc., is unfortunately not possible.
  2. How to shorten the length of sleeves, pant legs, skirt length, etc. More complex operations (such as shortening a sleeve on a coat, blazer, shortening the length of a coat with a vent, etc.) require more time and skill. If you do not manage to finish a repair during the workshop, we invite you to continue the work during one of the open sessions in the sewing lab.

What should I bring with me?

  1. Bring the garment on which you want to shorten lengths or replace a zipper. If you are a complete beginner, we recommend that you bring no more than one item.
  2. If you want to replace a zipper, bring a new zipper and thread of matching color (black and white threads are available in the lab). When buying a zipper, pay attention to buying the correct type of zipper and the correct length – consult the seller (on jackets, cardigans, etc., a separable zipper is usually used, on fine dresses and skirts a hidden zipper, on sports jackets and bags a more robust zipper …).

Join us and gain knowledge on how to adapt or repair clothes so they will serve you for many more years.

Prior knowledge:

NO, prior knowledge is not required, but basic knowledge of sewing and using a sewing machine is recommended.

Does the workshop count as training?

YES, by participating in the workshop you will complete training for the sewing workstation.

About the mentors:

Karmen Gombač, mentor in the textile lab, master of tailoring, sewing, and numerous other textile techniques, who finds the right solution for every sewing problem.

Mark Cvelbar, mentor in the textile lab, expert in technical patterns and materials, tactical gear, and textile repairs.

***

The participants should gather 15 minutes before the start of the program in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which your mentor will show you. Do not be late for the program, as this disrupts the workflow. In case of tardiness, entry into the lab unfortunately cannot be guaranteed.

The program will be conducted in Slovenian, unless otherwise stated.

The program is intended for participants aged 14 and older, unless otherwise specified.

In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the planned start.

If you cannot attend the program, the fee is non-refundable and rescheduling is not possible. You may transfer your participation to another person, provided you notify us at least 24 hours in advance at tekstil@center-rog.si.

We look forward to your company and creative collaboration!
