All the removed trees on Petkovškovo embankment will be replaced with new ones

At Center Rog, we regret that the public was not better informed about the reasons for the tree removal on Petkovškovo embankment, despite the growing awareness of the importance of each tree canopy in the city. Significant effort was put into preserving the linden trees, and the reasons and announcement for their removal were already published by the City Municipality of Ljubljana at the end of February HERE. The expert team that carefully examined the roots of all the trees included specialists from the Institute for Nature Conservation, the Biotechnical Faculty, and city arborists. Unfortunately, during the tree inspection, it was found that their root systems had been so damaged by old invasive interventions dating back to the 1990s that, upon closer examination, rot was detected. However, this rot could not be identified by simply looking at the trees. The city would have acted irresponsibly if it had insisted on preserving unstable trees at all costs, thus endangering residents.
We are pleased that the trees will soon be replaced with exceptionally tall lindens, which will quickly provide pleasant shade, abundant flowers for pollinators, and the young trees will accumulate more carbon. The renovation of the embankment with new paving will also ensure significantly better conditions for the growth of the newly planted trees than the doomed ones had previously.
