At the initiative of Center Rog, Ljubljana has joined the FabCity network, which brings together cities committed to sustainable development, the circular economy, manufacturing, and creativity. The international network was established in 2014 at the initiative of the then-mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, who called on cities worldwide to produce everything they consume in the next forty years. Today, 75% of Europeans live in urban areas, and cities globally account for 75% of natural resource consumption, produce 50% of all waste, and generate 60-80% of greenhouse gas emissions.

The City of Ljubljana is committed to sustainable development, creativity, and innovation. In 2021, Ljubljana developed its first circular economy strategy, which seeks a balance between design and innovation, production and consumption. New circular business models focus on reuse, repair, repurposing, and sharing.

Next year, with the opening of Center Rog, Ljubljana will have the largest public "fablab" in Europe, offering space, machines, and knowledge to creators from the fields of applied arts, crafts, design, architecture, engineering, and all those who wish to learn new skills. Center Rog will operate as an interdisciplinary public fabrication space for the 21st century, open to a wide range of users. For the development model of Center Rog – RogLab – the city of Ljubljana received the Eurocities award for innovation in 2018. RogLab, established in 2012, was the first Slovenian fablab and the smallest public "fablab" in Europe, with Ljubljana being a pioneer in introducing makerspace culture to Slovenia.

The ceremony marking the acceptance of eight new cities into the FabCity network, which has now become part of a network of 49 cities worldwide, took place on October 17, 2022, in Bali, Indonesia.
