Data Games: Landscapes

The exhibition continues the artist’s investigative series, in which publicly available 3D model collections are transformed into new, generative forms, species, and spaces using custom-designed algorithms and machine learning techniques. In the first two parts, he worked with extensive databases of busts and full-body sculptures, developing from them a fresh generation of 3D objects.

The latest iteration, Landscapes, stems from the ecology of soundscapes and focuses on the impact of sound on space and human perception. Previous “sculptures” are transformed by the artist through interpolation in latent space into a fluid, continuous 3D landscape. This landscape is then exposed to three classes of sounds identified by soundscape theory: biophony (sounds of living beings), geophony (natural, non-living environmental sounds), and anthropophony (human-made sounds). In the three-part video installation, these sound sources literally “erode” the landscape—its surface shifts, breaks down, and reassembles under their influence—illustrating how sound co-creates the environments in which we live.

Through a simple yet precisely designed process, Sekelj opens a critical perspective on the often overlooked sensory relationships between humans and their environment. The exhibition invites quiet listening with the eyes: to observe the sounds that shape landscapes and the landscapes that reveal the sonic layers of our everyday lives.
