Celebrating European Artistic Craft Days in Center Rog

Join the celebration of the European Artistic Crafts Days at Center Rog from 31 March to 5 April 2025, organised under the auspices of the L'Institut pour les Savoir-Faire Français and European Crafts Alliance with the central theme "Golden Thread". We will explore the magic of handicraft skills and discover different forms of creativity - from jewellery and ceramics to textiles and fashion.
Join us at free guided tours and demonstrations, where experienced craftspeople will share their knowledge and passion for handicrafts.
During the week, we have also prepared a complementary programme of paid workshops at specially favourable prices, complementing the free activities.

- Monday, 31 March 2025
18.00 - 19.00: GUIDED TOUR OF PRODUCTION LABORATORIES (apply here)
Join us on a guided tour of the labs at Center Rog, which includes a short stop at all nine workshops. In each lab, a mentor will be available to provide explanations and answer your questions.

18.00 - 20.00: DEMONSTRATION OF TURNING ON THE POTTERY WHEEL - free presentation of various ceramic forms (more information)
The clay-shaping demonstration will be held under the auspices of Manufaktura, a craft material store. Various creators will be invited to showcase their unique approach to working with clay. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe the creation of both basic and more complex ceramic forms and receive valuable advice from the demonstrators.
Manufaktura will open its doors in May at Center Rog. This specialized store will offer materials and equipment for ceramics, including clay, glazes, tools, and other supplies.

18.00 - 19.30: CROCHET-SESSION - free demonstration at the regular meeting of the crochet meet up participants (more information)
Demonstration of crochet will show basic and advanced crochet techniques and the process of creating a crocheted product. Visitors will see the making of basic and complex loops and get useful advice from the demonstrator.
18.00 - 19.30: STORYTELLING WITH TEXTILES - free demonstration at the regular meeting of the club participants (more information)
Storytelling with Textiles is a meet-up that connects handmade textile work and the reality of an individual's life. It builds on the recognition of poetic, miraculous and universal stories that we live daily throughout our lives. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the creators, learn about their creative processes, and discover the stories behind the projects developed during the Storytelling through Textiles meetings.

17.00 - 18.30: BOBBIN LACE-MAKING MEET-UP - free demonstration of lace-making run by lace-making society (more information)
Idrija bobbin lace is an important part of Slovenian and world cultural heritage. The inscription of this craft on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage gives it even greater importance and recognition both at home and abroad. Center Rog also hosts a weekly lace-making meet-up. Visitors will be able to observe and learn about the creative processes of lacemaking and receive useful tips during a demonstration.

12:00 - 13:00: GUIDED TOUR OF THE APRIL POP-UP SHOP MJZ FASHION (more information)
Center Rog offers pop-up shop at its premises, given to local craft and design brands for 1 month based on a public call. The April brand MJZ Fashion combines two concepts of new sustainable and second-hand clothing and promotes the extension of the lifespan of clothing. During the guided tour, the designer will present both approaches, including a presentation of the brand's collection.

17.00 - 20.00, EARRING-MAKING - workshop for adults in the Jewelry lab (applications)
In the workshop, we will guide you through the entire process of making metal earrings, which you will enhance with various patterns using forging techniques. Participants will learn the basics of sawing, filing, and grinding metal and discover how metal behaves when shaped with different hammers.

10.00 - 12.00, KINTSUGI - workshop for adults in Ceramic and Glass lab (applications)
Workshop on Japanese techniques for repairing broken ceramic and porcelain objects. The workshop will aim to subtly highlight cracks with a mixture of gold, silver, or platinum hues. We will use a two-component epoxy adhesive mixed with bronze powder. The final products will not be meant for use.

10.00 - 13.00, QUARTO BOARD GAME - workshop for children in Wood lab (applications)
Children will create a Quarto board game for two players out of wood. The game requires a playing board with 16 squares and two sets of eight pieces. Through the process of making this simple and fun product, participants will learn the basics of manual woodworking – including sawing, drilling, joining techniques, and shaping wood by rasping and sanding.
16.00 - 19.00, TIFFANY GLASS COASTER - workshop for adults in Ceramic and Glass lab (applications)
Using the Tiffany technique, we will create a decorative glass coaster. Participants will prepare the glass pieces by cutting, grinding, and covering the edges with copper foil and continuing soldering the elements together. The solded joint can be additionally treated with black or copper patina to achieve the desired aesthetics.
