Guillian Graves
Guillian Graves is a French designer and graduate of ENSCI–Les Ateliers in Paris, where he completed his studies in partnership with École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He leads the Paris-based studio Big Bang Project, which brings together design, science, and technology to develop innovative solutions for society and the environment. Biomimicry—an approach that draws inspiration from living systems to create sustainable innovations—lies at the heart of his work. At ENSCI–Les Ateliers, he heads the specialised Master’s programme in Nature-Inspired Design and Phusis Lab and collaborates with the Centre de Recherche en Design. His work in bioinspiration, biomimicry, and biodesign has been presented at more than 450 conferences and exhibited in 21 cities across nine countries, including at the Centre Pompidou, the MAK Museum in Vienna, and New York Design Week. In 2024, Vogue included him in its list of 100 Innovators of the Year. During his residency at Center Rog, Graves will develop More than Refuge, a project exploring how design can actively contribute to ecological restoration in urban environments. Inspired by coral reef ecosystems, the portable habitat will be installed in Park izbrisanih and linked to the beehive on the roof of Center Rog. It will provide a habitat for pollinators, fungi, insects, birds, and other urban species. The project will be developed in collaboration with a network of scientific and ecological advisers and will also include a citizen science component. Throughout 2027, Center Rog volunteers and the wider citizen science community will monitor the habitat’s development and impact.
