Barbara Rakovská (CZ)

Barbara Rakovská is a Prague-based designer working at the intersection of art, fashion, and material innovation. Her practice explores the relationship between design and the body, focusing on sustainable and environmentally responsible products made from biomaterials. She is particularly interested in new materials, additive manufacturing, and the intersection of traditional local materials and emerging technologies. She holds a Master’s degree in Design from the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague. She later joined Fabricademy in Barcelona, a postgraduate programme dedicated to textiles, technology, and biomaterials. There, she developed Amber Grain Embroidery, a research project exploring root-based materials. She further expanded her knowledge through the Future Technologies for Sustainable Fashion programme, developed in collaboration with Fab Lab Barcelona, IED, and IdeaSquare CERN. During her residency at Center Rog, she will develop Root Alliance, a wearable garment conceived as a living ecosystem co-created with plants, roots, seeds, and microorganisms. Rather than being intended solely for humans, the garment acts as a temporary habitat and a platform for interspecies collaboration. Rakovská will work primarily in the Textile and Green Labs and will also present part of her research through a public workshop on creating with root-based materials.
